about

The Cat Box Corp. proudly presents the debut album from three veterans of the Copenhagen based experimental rock scene. Distortion Girls have with Party finally captured a definitive Technicolor vision of their songs in the form of 73 sprawling minutes spread on 4 sides of black vinyl.

The two side-long tracks bookending the record defining the range: Rain Rain Manhattan opens the album all widescreen psychedelic forward motion, like something escaping from a low budget/high ambition mid-80s 4AD-release, before gradually growing in intensity toward noisescapes closer to Bad Moon Rising-era Sonic Youth. And the sort-of-theme-song Distortion Girls reels everything in toward the end with a dark slow-motion underwater lullaby submerging a steady beat in layers of backward piano, ghostly choruses and increasingly abstract guitar soloing.

Between these two, we move with the hard beats and metallic riffs of the title song Party, dance to the garage-driven warning of the dangers of bureaucracy (with banjos) of Paperwork, catch our breath for a bit with the free flowing beat-less intermezzo of Lightning Strikes before being beaten up again by the homemade brass section gatecrashing a power pop ode to lust in Kiss Kiss Kiss and floating away to the disco shoegaze atheist sermon of Future Song.

Everything has been recorded and mixed for your pleasure with love by Distortion Girls at their Bitch House Studio, before being finished up with a spectral mastering and vinyl cut by the one and only Rashad Becker at D&M, Berlin. We hope you will join the party!
